Use this connection kit to connect the ThermaPress VF-1 to the Robinair #15800 vacuum pump, the pump we recommend. Kit includes a specialty brass fitting that connects to the pump itself, five feet of connection hose, hose barb fitting, and stainless steel clamps. If you plan on purchasing the Robinair #15800, be sure to order this kit because you will definitely save $ and regret not ordering it later after seeing what it costs to purchase these parts individually from your local home center or hardware store!
Included in Kit:
1 Brass pump fitting to fit the Robinair 15800
1 Nylon hose barb fitting to fit the VF-1 press
2 Stainless steel hose clamps
5 feet of braided vacuum hose
**We do not automatically include this kit when you purchase the VF-1 because many people choose a different vacuum pump other than what we recommend or they already have a vacuum pump. It is impossible for us to know what fittings and hose diameter will be required for all the different pumps available as there is no standardization between the pump manufacturers and many of you choose different sizes of vacuum pumps. A 1/2″ brass ball valve is included with the ThermaPress VF-1 with a 1/2″ NPT female inlet. If you do not order the kit on this page, you will need a 1/2″ male pipe thread, also called 1/2″ national pipe thread, hose barb. The size of the barb will be dependent upon the size of the hose that you use and the fitting on your vacuum pump. There are a lot of videos on youtube where people recommend removing the fitting that is factory installed on your vacuum pump for “better air flow.” and tell you to install a quick connect fitting. We do not recommend doing this or modifying your pump as those special fittings usually have an internal check valve to keep the oil contained within in your vacuum pump. Removal of the vacuum pump check valve will void the warranty on your pump, possibly damage your pump, and also risk damage to the ThermaPress VF-1 press, because the vacuum created inside the press can and will pull the oil in the pump back up the vacuum line into the press if the check valve in your pump has been removed.
