It would be easier and cheaper to fold the membrane or just stuff it into a padded envelope. Instead we roll it up and secure it and insert it into a plastic sleeve. It is then shipped inside a cardboard tube for protection. This prevents the membrane from getting permanent creases in it that could shorten its service life or result in reduced definition from the crease being used inside the “image area” of the vacuum former. The membranes are not cheap and it only makes sense to handle them and ship them to you correctly.
