Yes . . . We did! We chose to use cabinet grade plywood as the top frame and underbase. However, the plywood is not part of the vacuum chamber and cannot leak vacuum. After trying multiple substrates, such as acrylic and other plastics, we ended up using a combination of materials in building the VF1 along with some major improvements in technology and engineering. This increases the weight, strength, and heft of the upper frame and the entire former. It gives you a feeling of quality and not the feeling of cheap plastic. The result is the best vacuum former we have ever built and what we believe to be the best vacuum former on the market.
